Magnitude 7.4 Quake Causes Widespread Damage and Casualties

Over 100 Confirmed Dead, Hundreds Injured

A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4 struck central Japan at 6:49 AM local time, causing widespread damage and casualties. The epicenter of the quake was located in Fukui Prefecture, approximately 150 miles from Tokyo. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the quake was shallow, occurring at a depth of only 10 miles. The strong shaking lasted for over a minute, triggering numerous landslides and building collapses.

As of this hour, over 100 people have been confirmed dead and hundreds more injured. Rescue crews are working tirelessly to locate and assist survivors trapped under rubble. Multiple buildings, including residential homes, schools, and hospitals, have been severely damaged or destroyed. Transportation has been disrupted, with rail lines and roads closed due to damage.

The Japanese government has activated its emergency response system and is deploying personnel and resources to affected areas. Prime Minister Kishida Fumio has expressed his condolences to the victims and vowed to provide all necessary support for recovery and reconstruction efforts.
